The Prince
The Key
That odd object in the center of this piece is a key. The key is floating in front of some stairs leading to a doorway. Behind the doorway is a heart. Behind the heart is the profile of a man.
There is an excellent docmentary that aired on PBS called The Cats of Mirikitani. I was able to find a copy of the film on DVD at my local library after a friend recommended to me.
Jimmy Mirikitani lived close to twenty years homeless on the streets of New York City. He supported himself by selling his artwork.
Jimmy’s story is explored in the film. While making the documentary Mr.Mirikitani’s life reaches a remarkable coda when many of the traumas he was subject to are resolved. This is the stuff of a Hollywood movie and I am sure that someday a dramatic picture of his life will be made.
