Pinturitas

August 5, 2010

The Woman by Herbert Freeman

Maria Angeles Fernandez (b. 1950) who prefers to go by the name Pinturitas lives in the village of Arguedas in Navarre, Spain.  It is there that she is making a name for herself with her extroverted personality and extraordinary artwork.  Pinturitas paints murals and only murals and she only paints them in one location – on the walls of a no longer used restaurant.  She uses inexpensive water based poster paint that is provided to the school system.  She paints using the primary colors directly out of the jar.  Because she uses a water based paint she has numerous opportunities to continuously update her creation after a rain storm has erased her work.

Pinturitas has an extravagent personality and will happily explain her work to the tourists who come to see her murals.  I have included a video where she does just that.  There are other videos available of her singing, dancing, and otherwise mugging for the camera.
