Louis Thomas Hardin, better known as Moondog was the most legendary street person in the history of New York City. Starting in the late 1940’s the blind Moondog would stand on 6th Avenue wrapped in a green army blanket and sell his compositions and poetry. Later in reaction to comments that he had a Christ-like appearance he adopted the dress of a viking, complete with horned helmet and long spear. He left the streets of New York in 1974 to go to Hamberg where he was invited to perform his music. Hardin decided to stay and earn his living as a street performer in Germany. He died 1n 1999 at the age of 83 in Munster, Germany.
