Papunya Tula Artists

April 19, 2010

In this video Mr. Freeman talks a little bit about himself and his art.

Arguably, the most significant and successful school of painting  in Australia is the Western Desert Art Movement.  This movement began in 1971 when an art teacher in a resettlement camp gave a group of adult Aboriginal men some modern art supplies.  This was the first time these men had used paint brushes and acrylic paint.  The men used these materials to paint their ancestral stories on masonite boards. Later they began to paint on stretched canvas.
